Ellen surprises Albuquerque teacher again
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. ?Just a few weeks after an Albuquerque teacher?s inspiring story was featured on national TV, Ellen DeGeneres had more surprises for Sonya Romero. Romero, a kindergarten teacher at Lew Wallace Elementary, received $20,000 from Ellen earlier this year. Ellen was moved by Romero?s caring nature. Romero starts her class off each day by asking students if they?ve eaten, and reaches into her own pocket to make sure her students are fed. She?s also fostering two of the school?s students. The time since the Ellen Show has been a whirlwind for Romero, who?s received awards and recognition. On Wednesday?s show, Ellen set up a fake award at her school and pretended to be a KOAT Action 7 News reporter. When Ellen finally revealed her true identity, Romero was whisked outside to find a new Ford Edge. ?I was in complete shock, and then everyone came in and I went, ?Oh my goodness,?? Romero said. ?Just last week my timing belt went out and my power steering. I drive a lot. I have kids and we have activities and live a little far from the school. So we drive a lot. So it was just this absolute blessing.? To top it off, Sean Puffy Combs was on the show. He agreed to pay for Romero?s gas for two years and gave Lew Wallace Elementary another $10,000.
